Darvish challenges Asian pitcher to win 100 games in 18 years since Park Chan-ho

Japanese major leaguer Darubish Yu (36, San Diego Padres) is challenging an Asian pitcher to win 100 games in 18 years since Park Chan-ho, the “Korean Express”.

Darubish will start at 9:40 am (Korean time) on the 10th at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado, USA in an away game against the Colorado Rockies in the 2023 Major League (MLB) of the United States.

Darvish achieved his 99th win (79th loss) in his personal career against the Chicago White Sox on the 4th, the previous appearance.

If Darubish becomes the winning pitcher against Colorado on the 10th, he will become the third Asian pitcher to win 100 wins after Hideo Nomo and Chan-ho Park from Japan.

The 100-win pitcher in Asia has recently been discontinued. On April 21, 2003, when Nomo played for the Los Angeles Dodgers, he became the first Asian pitcher to reach 100 wins against the San Francisco Giants. On June 5, 2005, when Chan-Ho Park was a member of the Texas Rangers, he achieved 100 wins against the Kansas City Royals.

Park Chan-ho holds the record for the most wins by an Asian player with 124 MLB career wins. Nomo won 123 wins.

In addition, Hiroki Kuroda (retired) from Japan won 79 wins (79 losses) and Masahiro Tanaka (Rakuten Golden Eagles) won 78 wins (46 losses) before returning to Japan and failing to achieve 100 MLB career wins. Ryu Hyun-jin (Toronto Blue Jays), who is preparing to come back after elbow surgery, currently has 75 wins (45 losses).

Darvish was born to an Iranian father and a Japanese mother.

From 2005 to 2011, he won 93 wins and 38 losses with an ERA of 1.99 for the Nippon Ham Fighters of the Japanese professional baseball, and then entered the big leagues through a closed competitive bid (posting system). Texas invested $117 million (approximately 1513 billion won) in the recruitment of Darubish.

In his first season in the MLB, he went 16-9 with an earned run average of 3.90, and the following year he became the strikeout king in the American League, and also ranked second in the Cy Young vote.

Darvish recently showed off his strength by reaching the regulation innings for the fourth consecutive year. He went 16-8 with a 3.10 earned run average last year. Darvish was guaranteed a contract up to 42 by San Diego.메이저사이트

Darvish signed a six-year contract extension with San Diego earlier this year for $108 million (approximately 139.6 billion won). He is also doing well this season with a 4-4 record with a 4.10 earned run average.

Colorado, which Darvish met on the way to his 100-win challenge, is at the bottom of the National League West Division with 26 wins and 38 losses and an odds rate of 0.406. They are sluggish with 2 wins and 8 losses in the last 10 games. The team’s batting average is 0.259, which is ninth overall in MLB. However, the variable is that it is held at Coors Field, which is located at an altitude of 1600m above sea level and is called the ‘graveyard of pitchers’.
