on the 7th (local time), 48-year-old Carlos Francisco Juarez was found guilty of sexually assaulting four female students between 2005 and 2010 while he was working as a basketball coach in southern California. The girls were between 11 and 17 years old at the time of the incident. Todd Spitzer, the prosecutor in charge of the case, said, “Juarez committed crimes against his young students by using their trust and authority,” and added, “Youth sports should be a safe environment where there is no fear of parents or young athletes becoming victims of sexual crimes.” Prosecutors said Juarez sexually assaulted the victim, who was in her early teens, while giving private lessons in 2005. The girl stated that Juarez handed her an envelope of money after sexually assaulting her. Juarez later forced a 13-year-old girl to perform sexual acts in exchange for starting appearances. Juarez was sentenced by a local court to 150 years in prison for 10 felonies, including 7 counts of lewd acts against a child. Juarez is said to be planning to appeal this.
