Learning from 3-win rookie Song Young-jin “It’s more comfortable mentally to hit instead of walk”

SSG Landers Song Young-jin (19) learned another lesson on the professional stage.

After starting against the Hanwha Eagles held at SSG Landers Field in Incheon on the 13th and winning his third win of the season, Song Young-jin said, “I was able to play the game without being chased mentally because I did not give up a walk.”

It was Song Young-jin’s first no-4 game since his professional debut. On this day, he allowed 6 hits and 4 runs in 5 innings, but did not give up any walks or hit balls. SSG director Kim Won-hyung also said, “As he himself said, that’s how we grow.”

In particular, Song Young-jin was twice as happy as he won in a matchup with Moon Dong-ju (2022 1st nomination), a competitor for the rookie award, who gave up 7 hits and 7 runs in 2 and 1/3 innings in 2 and 1/3 innings.

Song Young-jin, who joined SSG in the 2nd round of SSG in 2023 and was nominated in the 15th place, has 3 wins and an average ERA of 3.95 in 7 games. He was recognized for his potential through spring camp and exhibition games, but as a rookie, he continues to show more than expected.

The only regret left in his previous 6 games was 4 balls. He gave up a whopping 20 four walks (19 walks) while pitching 22 1/2 innings. He had far more hits (15). This was the reason for his high on-base percentage (1.52) per inning despite his low batting average (0.183).

Song Young-jin recorded 64.7% of strikes against Hanwha on the 13th. He pitched far more aggressively than his 58.0% in his previous six games.

Song Young-jin’s strength is ‘the end of the ball’. “My fastball is two-seam, sinker, and cutter,” Song says. Director Kim Won-hyeong also said, “Usually, a fastball is caught with the index finger, but (Song) Young-jin seems to be caught with the middle finger. At this time, the ball tip seems to naturally slightly change like a cutter or two-seam.” It has a speed of up to 150 km per hour, and the ball bends little by little, so the probability of getting hit is low.

After the game with Hanwha on the 13th, Song Young-jin also said, “The tip of the ball has the advantage of being dirty. Rather than giving up a walk while trying to throw it into the corner, it was effective to ask the batter to hit it even if it hits.” 메이저사이트

Director Kim Won-hyeong advised, “You need to take steps to feel yourself while throwing and make changes when it is difficult. You have to try and experience what you are good at.”

Ahead of the arrival of new foreign pitcher Roennis Elias, manager Kim Won-hyung switched starting pitcher Seung-won to the bullpen to clear traffic. Song Young-jin promised, “I am very grateful for the opportunity to continue to pitch as a starter, and I will work hard to show improvement.”
